This is a small tree on a table that is missing the cat who use to sleep under it....she went to kitty heaven this summer.

Interesting fact about Hat makers!

The character of the Mad Hatter was invented by Lewis Carroll in 1864 for his classic book of “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”. The Hatter is a hat maker who is quite mad because he is being slowly poisoned by mercury fumes given off during the hat making process.

Started paper mache head for Mad Hatter. I begin with a styrofoam ball and press area in for eyes,cover with paper mache clay and then start building up area for eyes,nose and then mouth.

I put a stick up the center of the ball to hold but still occasionally find I am accidentally squishing one part I just worked on while going to another. It's hard to wait for drying in between features !

PENDANT SCULPTURES

Just finished my first attempt at a small sculpted head mounted in a silver pendant frame. A cat with a top hat. Cats face is paper mache clay and hat is made from heavy paper. Varnished all with matte varnish and added a silver ball chain.I like the way it turned out so the next 3 will be for my daughters...of course they want skeleton faces with top hats. Measures just 1.5 inches high and 3/4 wide.

Working on some smaller ornament size "dolls" for Christmas ornaments. I have been inspired by the artist Louis Wain and his cat art. Made a Pug dog too.Sold all 3 finished cats as soon as I brought them to work !
Quickly made a bunch more with a larger doll I started....got to get painting now.
They range from 3 to 5 inches tall and incorporate vintage holiday items...tiny hats,trees...

JACK SKELLINGTON is finished and Sold....a commissioned piece. He is 13 inches tall. His head and hands are hand sculpted paper mache and his body is fabric,handpainted with an over laid jacket with tails.
He hold a paper mache heart with rusty wires which can be removed. His arms are jointed and can be posed.

RUSTY WHEELS

Taking old or antique 'junk' and incorporating it into a new piece of art is a favorite of mine. Rusty metal car jacks became mannequin-like stands for 2 skeleton Art dolls recently.

The cool feature of the car jacks is that they come apart... so you can take the doll out of the stand and hold it like a torch,if your so inclined...maybe on Halloween night

Also,placed a Snow White doll inside a wood bureau drawer.

My latest find,on the side of the road. ....was an old Baby carriage with these great wheels.Took a plier and a bit of figuring to get them off
It was pouring rain but I managed to put it in my car trunk.(I like to keep it empty just in case!) Even though it was out for trash I always feel like I'm sneaking around. But...if the find is special enough,your endorphins drowned out any fears.
Now I have to stare at these wheels and think creative thoughts.
Any ideas are welcome!

HALLOWEEN QUILT

Just finished a 24 X 14 inch hand painted Halloween Quilt. The preliminary drawing went quickly but I labored over the color choices,when painting...as usual...so it seemed to take forever to finish.

Made a 24 x 14 batting sandwich with cotton muslin...transfered the drawing and then stitched around edges,trees and 9 trick or treaters.

Adding vintage cardboard letters to spell Halloween,a sign on the one tree and fringe I painted an antique orange on the bottom edge now makes it Mixed media I assume?
Now it just needs a pole on the back for hanging and much better pictures!
